Our Mission
The Be Kind to Special Needs NY coalition is dedicated to preserving funding for special needs / Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities programs in New York state. We are fighting to maintain funding for quality services and care to disabled citizens of our state and make sure the state honors its commitment to independent living vs. institutionalization for these disabled citizens.
Our coalition is made up of constituents that work in the human services sector, administrators, several labor unions, the AFL-CIO, elected leaders, and community members that support special needs.

Please help all of us who work and live in the Developmental Disabilities world,we cannot continue to live and work with the possible cuts the government is trying to impose. Sign the petition and email all your friends and coworkers to help us in the struggle.
Hi Mike,
It’s Nick Zawacki, President of ARCEU/NYSUT Local 4265 and employee of Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara. The web page is nice but it should list the names of the other human service agencies not just one that have been involved in this effort since November 2008 where there located and the names of the private sector locals that NYSUT is affiliated with.
This effort is to important to do nothing. Times are difficult but our voice must be heard. Numbers do matter as we are American citizens in the state of New York paying taxes. The work and services direct support/care professionals provide to individuals with disabilites is great and to cut vaulable funding and resources would be a terrible mistake. Anyone who works in this field or knows of someone with a developmental disability please sign the petition and let others know who can help support this cause.
God Bless you.
